Job Description
Are you financially astute, commercially minded and naturally inclined to look beyond the numbers in front of you?
We're working with a growing specialist business looking for an experienced Commercial Finance & Project Coordinator to join them on a part-time basis.
20–24 hours per week | Minimum 3 days per week
Office based initially, with some flexibility potentially available longer term
This isn't a traditional Accounts Assistant position.
There will certainly be hands-on finance administration – particularly around timesheets, project billing and invoicing – but they're looking for someone capable of contributing much more than simply processing information.
You'll be encouraged to understand the projects behind the numbers, ask intelligent questions, spot opportunities and help the business operate more efficiently and profitably.
The role
Working closely with the finance team and several Project Managers, you'll take responsibility for coordinating project information and supporting the invoicing process.
This will include:
- Preparing client invoices, supported by consultant timesheets
- Reviewing timesheets and project information to ensure work is billed accurately and completely
- Liaising with Project Managers, adapting to different projects and ways of working
- Monitoring project costs, revenue and profitability
- Identifying opportunities to improve commercial performance and efficiencies
- Looking ahead at project workloads and supporting resource planning and forecasting
- Helping improve processes as the business continues to grow
- Providing wider organisational and project support
- Assisting with documentation and administrative requirements
- Potentially becoming involved in broader commercial and strategic business support as the role develops
The business has grown considerably, and this appointment is partly about creating additional structure around that growth. For the right person, there is plenty of scope to make the position their own and become involved well beyond the initial finance responsibilities.
Who are we looking for?
You'll need a good financial grounding, but we're equally interested in how you think.
You'll be someone who doesn't simply accept information at face value. You'll naturally want to understand what's behind the numbers, notice when something doesn't quite add up and think about how things could be done better.
You'll ideally bring:
- Previous finance, commercial, project or management accounting experience
- Excellent Excel skills
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- An understanding of project profitability, costs and revenue
- Commercial awareness and confidence questioning information when appropriate
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to work effectively with several different stakeholders and working styles
- A proactive, resourceful approach and the confidence to work beyond a narrowly defined remit
You may have previously operated at a more senior level and now be looking for a genuinely interesting part-time opportunity that allows you to use your experience without returning to a full-time working week.
Equally, you may currently be working within finance or project support and feel ready for a broader role where your ideas and commercial thinking will be valued.
Hours
The position will be approximately 20–24 hours per week, ideally spread across shorter working days over at least three days per week. Four days could also work well.
The role will initially be predominantly office-based, although some home working may become possible once you're established.
If you're looking for a part-time position where you'll be encouraged to think, question, improve, and contribute, rather than simply work through a list of transactions, we'd be very interested in hearing from you.
